Privacy Policy
StarBright Learning Center ("StarBright," "we," "us") provides academic support and enrichment classes to homeschool families in Burbank, California.
This policy explains what information we collect through our website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. It applies to starbrightlearningcenter.org and the registration form hosted on it.
We keep a more detailed internal Data Protection Policy that governs how we handle student and family information across our whole organization. Families and charter school partners may request a copy.
Information you give us
When you complete our registration form, we ask for:
About your student
Name and preferred name
Date of birth and grade level
Whether your student is enrolled with a charter school, and which one
How you intend to pay for classes
Names of siblings currently attending StarBright, if any
Homeschool programs or learning centers your student has attended
Allergies, medical conditions, medications, or classroom accommodations we should know about
About you
Your name, email address, and phone number
An additional parent or guardian, if you list one
An emergency contact name and phone number
Your home address
About your registration
The classes you select
Your typed signature and the date you submitted the form
We only ask for information we need in order to place your student appropriately and to communicate with you. Fields marked optional can be left blank.
Information collected automatically
Our website is built on Squarespace. Like most websites, it and its service providers may collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and the site that referred you.
We use Squarespace's built-in analytics connected to Google Analytics. We only use the tracking cookies required for Google Analytics. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not permit advertising networks to collect information through our site. Specifically, Google Analytics’ ad-personalization parameter [allow_ad_personalization_signals] is set to false.
Why we use your information
To review your registration and determine whether we can offer your student a place
To contact you about your registration, enrollment, classes, schedule changes, and events
To place your student in appropriate classes and support their participation safely
To coordinate with your student's charter school for approval, purchase orders, and invoicing
To keep records we are required to keep as a charter school vendor
To operate and improve our programs
We do not use your information for any purpose you would not reasonably expect from the list above.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information or your student's information.
We do not use student information for targeted advertising, and we do not allow anyone else to.
We do not build profiles of students for any purpose other than delivering our own educational services.
We do not share your information with other families, other learning centers, or marketing companies.
Who we share information with
Your student's charter school. If your student is enrolled with a charter school and using charter funds, we share the information that school requires; which is typically enrollment, class selections, attendance or participation records, and invoicing details. Charter schools have their own privacy policies governing what they do with it.
Service providers who help us operate. We use Google Workspace to store registration information and to send email. Providers act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
When the law requires it. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect someone's safety. This is especially pertinent when we are acting under our obligations as mandated reporters.
That is the complete list. We do not share your information with anyone else.
How we protect your information
Registration information is stored in access-controlled Google Workspace drives/accounts.
Only staff with a specific operational need can access it, and access is reviewed regularly.
All Google Workspace Accounts at StarBright Learning Center require multi-factor authentication.
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Our registration form includes protections against automated abuse and malicious submissions, as well as unauthorized and/or malicious data extraction.
Staff with access to family information are trained on handling it, and all staff working with students hold current background, health, and mandated reporter clearances.
No system is perfectly secure. If a security incident affects your information, we will notify you as required by California law, including in writing and within the timeframe the law sets.
How long we keep your information
If your student does not enroll, we keep registration information for [N], then delete it.
If your student enrolls, we keep records for [N] after their last class.
Health and accommodation information is kept for the shortest period of any information we hold.
Records we hold on behalf of a charter school are returned or deleted according to our agreement with that school.
We do not keep family information indefinitely.
Your choices
You can ask us to:
Send you a copy of the information we hold about you and your student
Correct anything that is inaccurate
Delete information we are not required to keep
Explain how your information is used and who it has been shared with
Email admin@starbrightlearningcenter.org. We respond within one business day. We will need to verify your identity first.
If your request concerns records held by your student's charter school, contact that school directly — those records are under their control, not ours.
Links to other sites
Our site links to charter school partners and to our social media pages. Once you follow those links, this policy no longer applies. Please review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Changes to this policy
We will post any changes here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will notify enrolled families directly.
